I've just read that the Oscars were yesterday. Amazing. The last time I went to a cinema and saw a whole film, without leaving half-way through, was in the late 1980s. So you can imagine how excited I am.
As far as I can see, the big, ground-breaking news is that a woman has won the Best Director award. This is big news because it's never happened before - which is pretty amazing, given that the Oscars have been around since the late 1920s.
To be more specific, this year Kathryn Bigelow got the Oscar for Best Director. Her film, The Hurt Locker, is about a bomb disposal team in Iraq.
Kathryn Bigelow was born on November 27 1951, which makes her a Sagittarian. In general Sagittarians, along with the other Fire signs of Aries and Leo, make excellent film directors. It's because they can quite literally see the big picture, and they know how to bring everything together, so that inspiration and vision can be mirrored in the celluloid (or digital) reality of a film.
However I don't think that Kathryn Bigelow is entirely typical of her star sign. She has the Moon in Scorpio, and as I keep saying, in a female horoscope the Moon is often more important than the Sun. So with the Moon in Scorpio she probably has an introverted streak, and has powerful feelings, that other people mightn't be fully aware of.
Yet I don't want to dwell too much on the details of her horoscope. Rather, I want to look at what was going on astrologically at the time of the Oscar ceremonies.
The ceremonies were on Sunday March 7, in the evening, Pacific Standard Time. And early that morning, at 4.33 am PST, the planet Venus entered Aries.
Venus is the natural planet of women, and Aries is a sign that's very assertive. So you have the signature of a successful woman. Furthermore, on March 7 Venus was making a close, 120-degree aspect to Mars, the planet of assertion and dynamism.
If you're into traditional astrology, another factor would be Venus' mutual reception by exaltation with the Sun. This means that Venus and the Sun were in the sign of each other's exaltation. I won't go into the details, but take it from me, it gives Venus a lot of strength.
All of this fits in very well with a woman being awarded a prize that had been a male preserve since the 1920s. Especially as Venus was very close to zero degrees Aries, a point in space that's associated with the world at large.
If I had been trying to predict who would win the Oscar for Best Director, I'm pretty sure I would have gone for Kathryn Bigelow, without even looking at her horoscope. The position of Venus was amazing, and it seemed very likely that a woman was going to be very successful.
But maybe I almost predicted it? Here's what I wrote on my website about Venus' current position, before the results were announced:
Venus is a planet that's connected with women, and Aries is a sign that's assertive and 'in your face'. So women can benefit from the situation, and they'll have no difficulty getting the attention of the men in their lives. Also, in a competitive situation, women have the advantage.
It's a shame I'm not more interested in Hollywood!
