Divination essentially means revealing the future, by interpreting significant signs. The word 'Divination' comes from the Latin 'Divinare', meaning to be inspired by a god, to foresee. It can be understood as a system for making sense of many apparently disjointed manifestations and symbols. It is more popularly known as 'fortune-telling'.
I will deal here with some of the various methods of Divination or fortune-telling - I would say it is a matter of individual taste and experience which will be the right one for you.
Astrology
This is a mode of divination with which we are all familiar. 'Horoscopes' are published regularly in magazines and newspapers and on the web. Astrologers believe that our lives are ruled by the star constellations, often referred to as Signs of the Zodiac, of which there are 12, as follows; Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. They contend that our personalities are shaped by them. However, for a trained psychic using astrology to divine your future they will need to know the precise time and date of your birth - not just your star sign.
Tarot Cards
Sometimes known as 'The Tarot' or 'Taromancy', this is one of the most well known forms of Divination. The Tarot Reader deals out the special tarot cards from a pack of 78, which includes 1 Fool, 21 trump cards, four suits of 14 cards each. Each of these suits has 'Pip' cards numbered from Ace to 10, and four Face Cards. Occultists call the Trump cards and The Fool 'The Major Arcana' and occultists trace The Tarot right back to Ancient Egypt, although there is no hard documented evidence of the use of The Tarot as a method of divination prior to the 18th century.
Rune Reading
Runes are essentially a writing system but has long served for the purpose of magic and divination. A person versed in reading of the runes used to be known as an 'Erliaz'. Runes are basically stones displaying inscriptions from the ancient German alphabet. The reader first mixed the rune stones within a pouch whilst focussing all their psychic energy upon them. The reader will then 'cast' the stones, typically nine stones. The reader will then use their skill to interpret meanings within the patterns of the runes.
The Crystal Ball
This is probably the most well known icon of fortune telling, often used by mysterious gypsies shrouded in tents at travelling fairs and the like. In fact they are said to date from the Druids.
Early crystal balls were made from beryllium aluminium silicate, though nowadays they tend to be made from rock crystal. The psychic looks deep into the ball and by concentrating their psychic energy they can 'see the future'. The process is also known as 'scrying'.
Dream Interpretation
Dreams are mysterious and their meaning a source of constant fascination for many people. Divination via dreams is also known as 'Oneiromancy'. Frequently our deepest sexual and emotional responses are revealed within our dreams. A dream interpreter can help you unravel the meanings of your dreams and the symbols within them.
