Weekly Horoscope Monday 03-01-2010 to Sunday 03-07-2010

Planetary Forecast

Slowly but surely does the landscape of the sky change. The cascade of planetary weather continues to look positive - albeit, in many ways tragic - with the conflicting dual energies of the Mars and Saturn retrograde, and the special conjunction of the Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus. By 03/02/2010, Venus will be leaving on its own from the sign of Aquarius and its conjunction with the other planets, and it will be stationed alone in Pisces. This still is a positive position for our planet of creativity and love, as Pisces can expand its qualities in a real and universal way. Venus entering Pisces represents the fulfillment of desire, as Pisces is the final sign in the zodiac, and it is ruled by Jupiter. Pisces is like the deep limitless ocean, and the pearl of Venus entering into this sphere will give deep support for the artistic desire. Expect an expanded sense of creative impulse from this transit.

Along with this positive transit for Venus, however, comes a confusing aspect from Saturn in Virgo. Venus and Saturn are natural friends - which is counter intuitive for many, because their qualities differ greatly. While Venus is stationed in the body in the Anahata Chakra - the energy center of the heart - Saturn is stationed in the Muladhara Chakra - the energy center at the base of the spine. The two planets form an important pathway of balance and energy flow. What this means is that while Saturn can be negative, constricting, and destructive, it can also give solidity and concentration to the creative impulses of Venus. Without Saturn, Venus is kind of like an orb of spastic energy that makes its environment brighter, but doesn't know how to sustain itself. Saturn gives Venus direction and purpose, and also posterity, to its creations. This can signal an important break from the struggles of the retrograde Saturn - which has produced many tragedies over the past few weeks. Expect not only an abundance of creative potential, but also allow it to be expressed in concrete forms - sculpture, architecture, carpentry.

Continuing the post from last week on the attributes of Rahu and Ketu - the north and south nodes - below is a rendition of their story that I wrote a couple years ago:

Many Moons ago, there was no threat of eclipse. The Sun and Moon traversed and circled the skies without fear that they could be challenged - for, who would threaten the Sun, the giver of life? And, what could threaten the Moon, the nurturer of life? The natural order or things prevailed - the Moon waxed and waned, and this was his own doing, with his enchantment with Rohini and his eventual curse. But this is neither here nor there, for there is another tale about the Sun and Moon, and the threat that exists against them - the eclipse.

Imagine for a moment sitting in a field 7,000 years ago, being completely aware of how the Sun and Moon feed the web of life around you - and then all of a sudden the sun is swallowed. You start to wonder, will it return? What swallowed it? Who is that dark shadow? The Sun shines again, of course, but for that brief moment it was gone, and it was dark, cold. And the moon, the primordial healer, sometime later in the year disappears, it is swallowed by an eerie red shadow - the eclipse.

There is a legend that comes from beyond the Indus River, the land of Bharat, that weaves and paints this story. Long ago, there was a great struggle between the Asuras, those bent on discord, and the Devatas, those preserving the natural order. The Devatas were at a loss, for they governed the fire, the Sun, the wind, storms, air, Earth, and the seasons. They did not want to give up this power, as they wanted to remain immortal in their posts. For many aeons and epochs the Asuras and Devatas battled for this cosmic supremacy, and enough was enough.

There was to be a contest held between the two factions, sanctioned by Vishnu himself, which was meant to produce a nectar that would make whoever supped it immortal. The scene was in the middle of the great cosmic ocean, where the central universal Mt. Meru stood in its center. The serpent king Vasuki turned himself into a rope, and the opposing sides of Devata and Asura took a piece of the rope and wrapped it around the mountain. A tug-o-war ensued, and many strange and powerful objects were churned out of the ocean from this match - a pot of poison, a wish-fulfilling tree, great jewels and powerful weapons. The nectar of immortality came up last, and both sides scrambled to get a hold of it. Vishnu, seeing that he must preserve order, donned the disguise of Mohini, a seductress and dancer. In this form, Mohini tricked the Asuras with her beauty and play, and the Devatas were able to win the elixir.

But, there was one very intelligent and keen Asura, by the name of Svarbhanu, how himself tricked the gods, and through his masks was able to pose as a Devata and drink the nectar, rendering immortality. Immediately after he drink from the pot, the Sun and Moon, with their bright and clairvoyant vision, were able to see through his mask. They alerted Vishnu and, with one fell swoop, Svarbhanu was beheaded. Now an immortal, but forever an Asura, Svarbhanu was placed as a guard amongst the Devatas and the natural order of the cosmos. Brahma, confused as to where the Asura belonged, placed his two parts amongst the planets in the sky. His head now was known as Rahu, his body as Ketu. Their nature is shadowy, not being true Devatas - they perpetually move retrograde, or backwards, against the grain of the formed and physical planets. They have limitless power, being rooted in discord and chaos. At certain intervals of time they swallow the Sun and Moon, now being their eternal enemy. On Earth they govern snakes, foreign things, outcastes, occultism, revolution, genius, creative explosions, luck.

Allow the nodes to work their best for you.

Lunar Forecast

The lunar situation comes into some precarious positions, especially on Monday 03/01/2010. The Moon will be conjunct the retrograde Saturn, which can lead to a limitation of emotional and mental energy. You may feel groggy, slow, and lethargic. A good way to counter this is to exercise, eat spicy foods, or do other activities that will invigorate your senses. The Moon of course is again on its waning course, as we come off the full Moon night. The waning phase lasts roughly fifteen nights, so the next couple weeks expect a slow down and withdrawl from external activity. Finding time to do things around the house, like cleaning or building, will be beneficial.

On 03/02/2010 the Moon will enter an interesting lunar mansions - or Nakshatra - known in Sanskrit as Hasta, or 'hand'. It is a cluster of five stars in the middle to end of Virgo that resemble the five fingers of a hand. This Nakshatra represents the will towards creativity - using one's hands as the agents of creation. The presiding deity over this Nakshatra is Savitri, a form of the Sun rising at dawn. Allow the creativity within you to rise like the Sun, spreading its rays across the Earth.

Again, as the Moon continues its journey along the waning phase, the presiding Tantrik goddess over this process is Kali. She is the dark goddess of destruction, but it is only the destruction and death of the ego.
