We are drawn together in order to heal. The law of attraction is powerful and not limited to any one orientation. Astrology won’t tell you who you get along with because attraction is based on multiple dynamics some of which fall into the realm of psychology, spirituality, karma and yes, astrology.  We do tend to seek what we lack, both energetically and from childhood dilemmas, but even this fact isn‘t enough to explain the complex law of attraction.

The astrological energy patterns that we possess can give us a lot of information about why we’re attracted to certain personalities, how we communicate, our approach to intimacy, how we handle conflict, and where our weaknesses will search out a balancing strength.

The polarities of masculine and feminine are fundamentals in astrology that influence the characteristic of the expression of the signs. The masculine and feminine principles symbolize the interrelationship between thinking (masculine) and feeling (feminine).

Masculine traits in the personality are, but not limited to:  positivity, intellectual, thinking, aggressive, pursues ideals and causes, communication - the spoken and written word, rational, action-oriented.

Feminine traits in the personality are, but not limited to:  negativity, feeling nature, irrational, practical, intuitive, receptive, passive, and relation to the unconscious.

We each possess both masculine and feminine energies in varying degrees.  We may have a masculine body with a feminine Sun sign and/or feminine energy patterns;  or a feminine body with a masculine Sun sign and/or masculine energy patterns;  or a masculine body with lots of masculine astrological energy, etc.  The combinations are too numerous to state and a natal chart will elaborate this point.

Carl Jung says that the masculine principle represents the principle of perfection, and that the feminine principle represents the principle of completeness.  In order to grow as human beings, in order to get a concept of self, we need to recognize the combination of these principles within ourselves and others. Carl Jung said that man is basically 60% male and 40% female.  The female, or recessive, part of the male he called anima.  A woman is 60% female and 40% male, and her recessive male part is called the animus.

The balance of masculine and feminine

According to astrologer Betty Lundsted, the balance of masculine and feminine planets in our natal chart is an indicator of how comfortable or uncomfortable we feel in our biological roles as males and females. This dynamic does not wait for adulthood to manifest and is noticeable in children as well as adults.

A masculine body with a masculine Sun sign is more comfortable in his body than a masculine body with a feminine Sun sign who feels subconsciously compelled to prove his masculinity many times through macho means.

A woman with a masculine Sun sign or masculine energy patterns is more aggressive than her zodiacal sisters who are feminine Sun signs.  The skin can feel like a scratchy wool coat for those whose biological gender is the opposite astrological polarity. 

This fact often explains generalized anxiety and/or gender orientation conflicts.  Astrology helps us understand where we need to make personality adjustments, not roll over and play dead to the challenges of our being-ness.

How polarities express in relationship

In relationships, masculine Sun signs, regardless of biological gender, will tend to treat their intimate partners in the same manner that their father treated their mother during developmental years.

Feminine Sun signs, regardless of biological gender, will tend to treat their intimate partners in the same manner that their mother treated their father during developmental years.

All of the Fire and Air signs are masculine.  All of the Water and Earth signs are feminine.

Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius are all masculine energy patterns.  Regardless of whether you are a male or female, if you are a masculine Sun sign you will tend to treat your intimate partner in the same manner as your father treated your mother during your developmental period in childhood.

Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces are all feminine signs.  Regardless of whether you are a male or a female, if you are a feminine Sun sign you will tend to treat your intimate partner in the same manner as your mother treated your father during your developmental period in childhood.

We are drawn together in order to heal. Astrology is a tool for understanding oneself and others more fully so that the choices we make in all areas of our life serve our highest purpose.  Remember, our will is our life.
